Bone Grafting

Bone Grafting is a surgical procedure that repairs and rebuilds damaged and diseased bones. It can be done on any part of the body, including the mouth. It is an excellent option for providing structural stability when there is an implant placement or even regular tooth extractions. Your dentist will let you know if you are a candidate for bone grafting before performing an implant or extraction. In most cases, bone grafting is necessary.

Why the grafting is done?

Bone grafting is done due to multiple reasons. There are two types of bone grafting; your dentist decides which one is to be performed depending on your oral conditions. You would be given local or general anesthesia before the surgery starts to avoid any discomfort. Some of the common reasons for doing bone grafting are:

  • When it’s necessary to replace missing or damaged bone.
  • When there is not enough bone to have a successfully placed implant.
  • When needed to help the area heal faster around the implant that was placed.
