Sealants children and adults

Sealants are thin, protective coating (made from resin or other dental materials) placed on top of the chewing surface of your back teeth. They are no substitute for brushing and flossing, but they can keep cavities from forming in the grooves of our back teeth and may even stop the early stages of decay from becoming a full-blown cavity. Although sealants are mostly for children, some adults also use them.

Applying the sealant

There are four steps that dentists follow for applying sealants to your teeth:

  • They would initially clean the surface of your teeth and dry it.
  • Your dentist will apply an acidic gel to prime the teeth surface. This ensures the sealant to adhere to your teeth under all circumstances.
  • Next, the gel would be rinsed, and a bonding primer will be placed, followed by the sealant material.
