Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Although these teeth are formally known as third molars, the most common name is wisdom teeth because they appear so late – much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are presumably “wiser” than a child.
If your dentist recommends a wisdom tooth removal, they will have to take an x-ray of your mouth and possibly a panoramic x-ray to determine who should carry out the procedure. Sometimes, wisdom teeth are too close to the nerves, so your dentist may need to have your wisdom teeth removed surgically.
Before having your wisdom teeth removed, you’ll be given an injection of a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and surrounding area.
What if I don’t take out my wisdom tooth?
To avoid future problems like the ones listed here, the dentist might suggest wisdom tooth extractions even if the tooth is not causing any issues at present. On many occasions, it has been noticed that even symptom-free wisdom harbors different types of diseases. There is a list of problems that can occur with your impacted wisdom teeth:
You might feel extreme pain.
Periodontal diseases.
Damage to the teeth surrounding the impacted teeth or to the jawbone.
Development of cyst in the gums.
- Movement of your bite due to pressure from the wisdom teeth.
