Fillings

Fillings are small structures made out of resin to cover or restore the function, integrity and morphology of a tooth. Fillings vary in complexity and material. Some are direct fillings, placed directly on your teeth, while others are indirect, wherein an impression of the tooth is taken and a custom filling is created to fit around it (inlays and onlays). Fillings can be temporary or permanent. Temporary fillings also prove to be helpful in case of root canals or in case of dental emergencies like a toothache. These fillings do serve emergency purposes but need to be replaced by the permanent ones. If our dentist can perform the treatment on the same-day, they may apply a permanent filling.

Different types of tooth filling

Depending on the conditions of the teeth, your dentist can use different filling materials. At Minty Fresh, our dentists only use quality materials to keep the aesthetic and natural look of your teeth.
Here are some of the different types of tooth fillings:

  • Amalgam Filling: They have been used traditionally for tooth filling and are quite strong. It is why this filling can easily be used at the back of the mouth, where most of the chewing occurs.
  • Composite Filling: The aesthetics are precise as that of a natural tooth, and they are relatively strong as well. They can ideally be used for small to medium restorations in the mouth area where moderate chewing occurs.
  • Metals: They are quite durable and last for an extended period. Although some people do not like gold filling aesthetics, a silver filling is one of the most common metal filling used worldwide.

  • Ceramic: This cavity filling gives a sense of natural tooth and is much more stain-resistant than a composite filling. These types of fillings are mostly used when the tooth is missing a big part, and our dentist needs to take an impression to take it to the lab and customize it to fit a perfect structure. In other words, a regular filling will not work in this situation.
